The Oregon State Flag is the only state flag with a picture on both sides!
On the front is a picture showing a heart shaped shield with an eagle on top, surrounded by 33 stars (the number of states in 1859). The scene on the shield shows the sun setting over the Pacific Ocean, mountains, forests and a covered wagon. A plow, wheat and pickax represent farming and mining. Trade is represented by a departing British ship and an arriving United States ship. The eagle represents the United States. On a banner are the words "The Union" representing support for the United States. The picture contains the words "State of Oregon" above the picture and the date of statehood, "1859," below. On the back side of the flag is a picture of a beaver.
 The Square Dance is the Oregon State Dance, so bow to your partner and do-si-do!
 The American Beaver (Castor canadensis) is the Oregon State Animal AND the mascot of Oregon State University's athletic teams. The beaver is often called "nature's engineer," and its dam-building is important to natural water flow and erosion control.
 Milk is the Oregon State Beverage because dairy production is very important to the state. I wonder what the state cookie is?
 The Western Meadowlark (Sturnella neglecta) is the Oregon State Bird. This bird is known for its distinctive and beautiful song.
 The Douglas Fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) is the State Tree of Oregon. These coniferous evergreens produce wood that is strong, but not too heavy.
 The Chinook Salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha), also known as Spring, King and Tyee salmon, is the Oregon State Fish. Record catches of 53 inches and 126 pounds have been reported! Try catching your own on Siltcoos Lake when you stay at Darlings Resort
